NEW ARRIVALS ARE IN! AMY LOUISE GALLIGAN Amy grew up on Martha's Vineyard surrounded by the extraordinary landscape of ocean, farmlands and lush trees as well as a supportive community of artists which have had great influence on her. She graduated in 2000 from the Art Institute of Philadelphia with an Associates degree in Fashion Design and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Jewelry and Metals in 2009 from UMASS Dartmouth. Influenced by her father, a builder and mother, an avid gardener, working with her hands has always come naturally to Amy . She is attracted to the intimate experience of adornment, as jewelry is not just something we look at, it is something that is worn against the skin or in the ears. It absorbs warmth from the body and brings attention to areas of the body where it is worn. It is an expression of ones identity. Much of her work incorporates wood with metal. She enjoys the fact that the objects she carves were once a part of a living entity. Over time, the carved pieces will grow and recede, they will absorb oils from the skin and they will burnish in areas where they are rubbed. While the shapes she carves are not depictions of anything in particular, they reflect natural forms. With both her wood and enamel work , it is important to her that there is a sense of life in each piece. Amy Louise Galligan Earrings, Amy Louise Galligan Necklaces, Amy Louise Galligan Rings, Home |
